How We Work

At Kell Electricals, we begin by understanding the property, its intended use, the existing electrical system, and what the client actually needs. From there, we assess the site, work out the right technical approach, carry out the work carefully, and test everything before handover.

Whether we’re wiring a new building, upgrading an existing installation, installing a solar and inverter system, or maintaining an operating facility, the process stays the same:

Our process

Seven steps, every project

Understand — we start with the requirement

Every project is different. Before recommending equipment or preparing a quotation, we want to know what you're trying to achieve. Depending on the project, this may include understanding the building and its intended use, discussing your electrical requirements, reviewing existing installations, identifying faults or limitations, understanding your power and backup needs, reviewing available drawings, and establishing budget and priorities. For larger or more technical projects, we carry out a proper site assessment before finalizing the engineering approach.

Assess — we inspect what's actually on site

What looks simple from a conversation or a photograph can be very different once we get to site. Our engineers inspect the relevant parts of the installation, including distribution boards, incoming supply, protective devices, cable condition, earthing, load distribution, generator and inverter systems, solar equipment, and existing faults. Where required, we take measurements and run the calculations to support our recommendations, rather than working from assumptions.

Design — we develop a practical engineering solution

Once we understand the requirement and the site conditions, we work out the appropriate solution. Depending on the project, this can involve load assessment and calculations, cable sizing, protection selection, distribution board design, solar and inverter sizing, battery capacity assessment, generator integration, and earthing considerations. We don't specify equipment just because it's available. The system has to make sense for the building, the load, and how it will actually be used.

Execute — we install with the finished system in mind

Our team carries out the work to the agreed scope. We pay attention to the things that are often hidden once a project is done: cable routing, labelling, circuit identification, terminations, distribution board arrangement, and long-term maintainability. Where other contractors are involved, we coordinate so the electrical work integrates properly with the wider project.

Test — we don't consider a job complete when the tools are packed away

Testing is part of the work, not an optional extra. Depending on the installation, this can include continuity, polarity, and insulation checks, earthing verification, protective-device testing, functional and load testing, and solar, inverter, or generator changeover testing.

Handover — we leave you with a system you can understand

At handover, we walk you through the completed system and anything you need to know to operate it. For larger projects, documentation matters even more, because the building may eventually be managed by someone who wasn't involved in the original installation. Where applicable, this can include test results, circuit schedules, as-built information, and maintenance recommendations.

Support — the relationship doesn't have to end at handover

Electrical systems need attention as buildings change and equipment ages. We support clients with preventive maintenance, fault finding, repairs, solar and inverter maintenance, upgrades, rewiring, and emergency response, subject to availability.
