What is Industrial Training?
Industrial Training (IT), also known as SIWES, is a supervised academic placement that gives currently enrolled engineering students practical exposure to real electrical work, alongside or fulfilling their institution’s industrial attachment requirement.
Who can apply?
Students currently enrolled in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Power Engineering, renewable-energy-related programmes, or closely related technical disciplines who require an IT/SIWES placement.
Is the programme only for electrical engineering students?
No. While most trainees come from electrical/electronics engineering backgrounds, students from closely related technical disciplines requiring an IT/SIWES placement, such as mechatronics or power engineering, are also considered.
How long is the placement?
The standard placement is 6 months. A 3-month placement may be available where your school specifically requires a shorter duration. Indicate which you need on the application form.
Is there a trial period?
Yes. Every applicant goes through a one-week trial period before formal acceptance into the programme.
Is the Industrial Training programme paid?
A monthly stipend is provided under the applicable programme terms. The amount and conditions are confirmed during the application process.
Is the stipend guaranteed for every applicant?
A stipend is part of the standard programme terms for accepted trainees; specific amounts and conditions are confirmed directly during the application process and are subject to applicable programme terms.
Can students outside Abuja apply?
Currently, applicants must be based in Abuja, FCT, under our current programme location policy, so we're unable to accept IT placements from students based outside Abuja.
What documents do I need?
An updated CV, your student ID, your SIWES/IT letter where available, your school’s placement requirements, and a short statement of interest.
Will I work on real projects?
Depending on project availability, safety considerations, and supervision capacity, trainees may be involved in residential, commercial, industrial, and energy/backup-power project work. Not every category is guaranteed for every trainee.
Will I receive a certificate?
Standard IT/SIWES completion documentation for your institution is handled as part of the placement. Specific paperwork and timing are confirmed directly with your institution’s requirements in mind.
Does completing IT guarantee a job?
No. Completing Industrial Training does not guarantee employment, permanent placement, or a job offer with Kell Electricals Ltd or any other employer.
